Helm is a bid desk for Australian SMEs, not a list of tenders. Finding the work is where it starts. What follows is the part most small businesses have never had: a place to decide whether a tender is worth the week, to get the pack read and the evidence in order, to write the response from facts you can stand behind, and to hand over a finished document. Helm walks that whole road, and each step is a room in the product.

Find: the market, read every day

Helm watches federal, state and council tender portals daily, reads every new listing, and scores each one against your business with an itemised, point-by-point explanation. Alerts, saved searches and a daily digest bring the ones that fit to you. The Pre-RFP radar shows planned procurements before they become tenders, the Panel radar tracks the standing arrangements you should be on, and the awards record shows who has been winning this kind of work, from published contract notices.

Decide: the Ready Room

Before you spend a week on a response, the Ready Room says whether you could lodge one at all. It keeps the registrations, insurances, certificates and statements a buyer expects, tells you what is current, what is missing and what expires when, and turns the gaps into a to-do list. The Evidence Library beside it holds your past projects, references and capability statements so every response draws on the same proven material.

Prepare: the bid workspace

Upload the tender pack, or drop the lot in one go, and Helm reads it. It builds a compliance checklist under the buyer's own headings, answers your questions from the pack with the page quoted, flags contract clauses worth a second look, and lays out the response outline from the evaluation criteria. Closing dates and addenda are re-checked against the portal so a moved deadline reaches you, not your competitor.

Write: Tender Mate, with the guardrails on

Tender Mate drafts each section from your own profile, evidence and the pack in front of it, in the voice of your business. It never invents experience: anything it cannot trace to a fact you recorded is marked for you to confirm or cut. The Procurement Journey gives step-by-step guidance for a first-time bidder, and the guides explain the rules the buyers work under, from the Queensland Procurement Policy to how a response is marked.

Export: a document you can lodge

When the response is ready, Helm exports it as a clean Word document or PDF with the sections you choose, the compliance matrix and your capability statement included. Lodging stays with you, on the buyer's portal, the way every tender requires. Team seats let a colleague draft while you review, and the Reports page keeps the record of what was bid and what was decided.

Who builds it

Helm is built and operated by AI Compass Pty Ltd (ABN 51 673 500 868), an Australian AI consultancy based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. AI Compass works with businesses, chambers of commerce and regional institutions on practical AI adoption, and Helm grew out of that work: the same question kept coming up in rooms full of capable small businesses, which was how do we get a seat at the table for government contracts without hiring a bid team.

The rules we hold the product to

Helm has one internal rule that outranks every feature: honesty is load-bearing. In practice that means every score is itemised so you can check our working. Sample data is labelled as sample data. Nothing is called live unless a feed genuinely refreshes. Coverage pages state what is connected today, not what is planned. If those standards ever slip, we consider that a bug with the same severity as a crash.

Where things stand
